Season of Reading, Fall! – Book Festival Report, Dongdaemun

Autumn has come and past. Among various activities, reading is a great opportunity to build a sense of mind. On October 13, Dongdaemun Book Festival was held at Yongdu Park. I visit this event directly which was carried out from 10am to 5pm.

You may ask me why “Reading”? I would like to share with you an interesting event which combined “reading” and “sharing” during the Book Festival.

I went to the book exchange booth in front of the outdoor stage where this event was held. I was exchanging three old books for a new one. During the festival, if the five-time stamp mission was successful through booths experience, you may gain an old book in return.

Nam Jung Ae, the director of planning team expressed expectations for the event, and said, "Many books are read only once and are fallen asleep after that. I wanted to pass the book on to the next person and create a shared event where I could gain knowledge." In fact, this booth was crowded with most people.

In addition, various events were held in line with the purpose of making the library in the town to be felt friendly. A total of 23 libraries and organizations participated, from town libraries, children's libraries to elementary and middle school libraries.

Lee Ye Rim, a student who helped in the organization of the festival from Gyeongdong Market Supporter, said, "I saw many children as they came with their family, the main visitors for the festival. I think it's a great opportunity to spread the practice of “Sharing” and “Reading".

Not only booths, the events at the Book Festival were also eye-catching. There were visitors at programs such as <Visual Library>, <Vocational Reading>, and <Listening to Emotional Poetry>. At the end of the day, I shared my reading experience in “The Presentation of Reading Club”.

In conjunction with the reading season, the Seoul Metropolitan Government not only hosts book festivals every autumn in various regions, such as Songpa-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu, but also holds book festivals at Seoul Metropolitan Library and many other places.

Why don't try visiting a book festival in this such nice weather every year? You can experience something that you never tried before! It will also be a great opportunity to naturally access the concepts of “reading” and “sharing”.
